    I have refugee or asylum seeker status in South Africa. How do I update my system record?

    Submit certified proof of your refugee or asylum seeker status by 31 July to adjust your residency and fee status for the academic year. Certified copies must be submitted to the relevant UFS contacts.
    Why do I need to submit documents before registering?

    This process ensures compliance with the Immigration Act, which requires UFS to maintain accurate records of international students for government reporting purposes.

    What documents are required for part-time/online student registration?

    • Certified copy of the passport bio page.
    • Confirmation of part-time or online study status from the relevant faculty. 
    I have been accepted and need to apply for a study visa. What should I do?

    Contact the UFS Office for International Affairs to obtain a letter of undertaking to support your study visa application.

    I have received permanent residency status in South Africa. What should I do?

    Submit certified proof of your permanent residency status by 31 July to ensure a fee adjustment. A certified copy of your permanent residence permit must be submitted to UFS.
    What documents are required for full-time student registration?

    • Certified copy of the passport bio page.
    • Certified copy of the relevant visa endorsed for UFS.
    • Proof of South African medical aid coverage.
    Why must I have South African medical aid?


    The Immigration Act mandates that all international students must have medical aid from a South African-registered scheme, valid for the entire academic year.
