Short CV

Makoena Joyce Moloi was born on 01 October 1977 in Qwaqwa. She matriculated at Lekgulo senior secondary school in Qwaqwa in 1995. She obtained the BSc degree (2000), BSc honours (Botany-2000) and MSc (Botany-2002). In the year 2003, she was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of the Free State. Her research in focused on the defence responses of wheat following the Russian wheat aphid infestation. She is a member of the South African Association of Botanists.

Area(s) of Interest

Her research is focused on developing an understanding of the early events that lead to the induction of the secondary defence responses during the Russian wheat aphid infestation in wheat. Her supervisor is Prof. AJ van der Westhuizen (Department of Plant Sciences-Main campus). This research will help to establish her as a researcher on the plant defence mechanisms to eventually contribute towards more simple and affordable farming practices. Her research will also contribute towards more sustainable food production and a safe environment.
