General Career Fair 2025
The General Career Fair, held at the Callie Human Centre on 17 September 2025, provided a platform for students to connect with industry professionals and explore career pathways. Opened by Belinda Janeke, Head of Career Services, the event included 14 employers from sectors such as agriculture, mining, environmental sciences, finance, commerce, the humanities, and social sciences, offering students insights into professional opportunities.
Of the 251 employers invited, 17 registered, with 14 attending. Employers reported satisfaction with the event’s organisation, noting efficient logistics, accessible parking, clear communication, and a professional atmosphere. Specifically, 81% were ‘very satisfied’ with pre-event communication and overall impressions, 73% plan to return in 2026, with first-time attendees valuing the opportunity to increase brand visibility and meet potential hires.

A total of 853 students attended the fair, with 297 students completing the evaluation survey – which showed the fair’s impact on career readiness. Many learned the importance of early career preparation, including applying for graduate programmes, bursaries, and vacation work from their second year. Students highlighted the value of networking, refining application materials, and developing skills such as communication and problem-solving. They also gained awareness of diverse career paths, employer expectations regarding certification and academic performance, and industry trends, such as opportunities in sustainability and aviation. Some students suggested including more humanities and public sector employers in future events.
Career Services’ marketing campaign, which included the use of email reminders, social media, posters, and Career Hub announcements, raised awareness and supported the event’s professional tone.
In conclusion, the General Career Fair 2025 enabled connections between students and employers. The event emphasised the role of direct engagement in career development and supported Career Services’ efforts to expand employer networks and prepare students for professional success.
