Qwaqwa Career Fair 2025
Where Aspirations Meet Opportunity

On 14 August 2025, the University of the Free State Qwaqwa Campus hosted its annual Career Fair – a dynamic event that connected 366 students with a wide range of employers and career opportunities. With seven companies exhibiting, the fair created a space where students could explore options for further study, immediate employment, or even international work placements, while employers emphasised that they are not only seeking experienced candidates but also graduates who are willing to learn and grow.

The event built on earlier sessions of mock interviews and speed networking, equipping students with practical job-seeking skills. As one employer noted, students were taught “how to answer questions and how to sell yourself” – skills that are critical for making the transition from study to the workplace.

Feedback from the student survey confirmed the impact of the fair. Many participants reported that they now have a clearer understanding of what is required to succeed in the world of work. Common takeaways included the need to refine CVs and cover letters, prepare thoroughly for interviews, and align personal skills with employer expectations. Students also expressed greater confidence and awareness of the wide range of opportunities available to them. One summed it up simply: “I learned that there are more diverse career paths in my field than I realised, and employers value both technical expertise and transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Recruiters stressed tailoring applications to specific roles, the importance of networking, and being well-informed about organisations and industry trends.”

The fair attracted exhibitors representing sectors such as finance, health care, education, public service, and international recruitment. Their presence demonstrated the strong partnerships between the university and industry, while also affirming the quality of talent produced by the Qwaqwa Campus. Employers praised the enthusiasm and potential of students, with international recruiters highlighting South Africa as a source of highly capable graduates.

The 2025 Career Fair once again confirmed its role as an important bridge between academia and the workplace, equipping students with the skills, confidence, and connections to pursue their future careers.
