1. What impact has GradStar had on your life in 2023?

GradStar helped me to recognize my capabilities. I am one person who used to self-reject in the past, who believed that certain things are cut for some other people. I used the GradStar opportunity to challenge myself to overcome the trap of self-rejection and to build my self esteem. I threw my whole self at the opportunity, devoured it and directed all my efforts into it. Being selected from over 5500 applications for the GradStar Top100, made me realise that I am cut for anything that I am willing to put my mind into.

2. How do you stay motivated and on track with your studies?

Whenever studying seems like hard work and not fun at all, I always try to remember what I am hoping to achieve at the end, and that is what is keeping me motivated. Sometimes studying isn’t fun, but it is these clear set goals that help me to drag myself up and grind. It is remembering where I come from and how will completing my studies improve my life and those around me that keeps me on track.

3. What drives you to excel in your studies?

What drives me to excel in my studies is meeting set goals as it gives me sense of accomplishment. This then motivate me even in times when I encounter challenges with my studies, because I would look back and reflect on my academic journey and noticed that “against all odd, I achieved all that and I can still overcome these challenges that I am faced with”. Meeting set goals help me to trust my track record of succeeding through different challenges and continue my path with faith.

4. Will you recommend GradStar to other students? Why/Why not?

I highly recommend that students take part in the GradStar Awards competition. GradStar challenges students to be their best and identify their areas of strength and weakness. It bridges the gap between the university and the workplace, allowing students to get an idea of what their future recruiters look for in the ideal employee. This is a great exposure, that will only impact them in a positive way.

5. What are your plans for 2023?

My main plans for 2023 is to (1) complete my master’s degree, (2) build good habits to improve my lifestyle and (3) take part in leadership short courses and workshops in order to equip myself for the workplace and to be able take on any challenge presented to me.
