The Kovsie ladies, playing in the top league at the USSA, made it to the semi-finals where they lost to Tuks. They did however go on to win the play-off match for the bronze medal. It earned them a qualification for next year’s Varsity Hockey tournament.

The USSA tournament was hosted by the UFS, whereby Kovsie women’s team won both their intervarsity clash games against the North West University by 3-1 and 3-2, with the men winning one and losing one

Casey-Jean Botha was the only Kovsie to be chosen for the national team in 2018. She played for the South African under-21 team that participated in the interprovincial tournament.

Braam van Wyk, coach of the Kovsie men’s hockey, and Luke Makeleni, coach of the Kovsie women’s hockey, both successfully completed their level three coaching course which is the highest level of coaching in South Africa.

Winray Christoffels (men) and Botha (women) were named as the Kovsie Players of the Year. In the campus league Veritas and Sonnedou were crowned as the champions.

The Men’s hockey team, trying to get back in Division A of the University Sport South Africa (USSA) tournament, finished in second place.
