A public participation process regarding the review of the MT Steyn statue’s position in front of the Main Building on the Bloemfontein Campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) is currently underway.
The process specifically addresses the removal, relocation, reinterpretation, and retaining of the statue and is part of the Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) required by the Free State Provincial Heritage Resource Authority (FSPHRA).
The review process includes opportunities for members of the university community and the public to make oral submissions regarding the position of the statue at the following venues:
South Campus:

Bloemfontein Campus:
23 August 2018

18:00 to 20:00
Centenary Complex
Qwaqwa Campus:
29 August 2018

UFS Child Information Centre turns 21

The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of the Free State (UFS) celebrated the 21st birthday of the Child Information Centre on the Main Campus in Bloemfontein. This year the department is also celebrating Down Syndrome awareness year. Some of the children with Down Syndrome who were treated at the centre also attended the function. From the left are: Ms Dorothy Russell (Occupational Therapist and head of the Child Information Centre), Prof. André Venter (Departmental Chairperson of the UFS Department of Paediatrics and Child Health), Mr Louis Theron (Administrator of the UFS Faculty of Health Sciences) and Ms Dalene Joubert (Founding member of the centre).
