Safety tips for the road ahead
Obey the rules of the road and be safe

The second semester has officially drawn to a close. Many people will be making their way to various destinations across the country. Arrive Alive has useful tips designed to ensure your safety on the road these holidays:

Keep these safety precautions in mind:

• Obey the rules of the road and carry your driver’s licence with you.

• Do not get stranded without fuel – Always plan ahead where you are going to re-fuel.

• Always ensure that a friend or family member who is not travelling with you, is aware of your planned route.

• Take safety breaks every two hours or every 200 km.

• Do not drink and drive – if you intend to consume alcohol, make alternative arrangements so that you will not be behind the wheel.

• Remain alert at all times and avoid driver distractions such as cellular conversations, texting, etc.

• South African law requires that each passenger transported in a motor vehicle should make use of a seatbelt and strap themselves in.

• Stay within the speed limit at all times.

• Be especially alert when approaching traffic lights, intersections, and level crossings.

Stay safe on the roads and look forward to the beginning of the second semester on 23 July 2018.

Residences putting final touches to their floats for Rag procession on 1 February

The Bloemfontein Campus has been a hive of activity, with students building floats ahead of the annual Rag procession on Saturday 1 February 2014. A palpable excitement hangs in the air at the Kovsie Ragfarm, where first-year and senior students are gathering to put the final touches to their residences’ floats. Residences’ hard work will culminate in a parade through the streets of Bloemfontein.

It is to be seen which residences’ floats fit the theme ‘Movies’ best to be crowned winners. Like 2013's winners – Karee, Soetdoring and Imperium – the winning residences will have a coveted front-row spot along the procession route.

Floats will depart at 09:00 for the first procession of the day, which end at Twin City Mall in Heidedal.

The float winners will be announced at 17:00, whereafter the main procession of the day will depart from the Tempe robot in Nelson Mandela Drive at 18:00.
