In the play
Moeders en Dogters we are confronted by the riots of 1976 – or is it 2016? South Africa is in uproar, universities are burning and closed, partly because of strikes against Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in institutions.
Moeders en Dogters, written by Corlia Fourie in 1986,
is a moving drama about an African family, a mother and her three daughters that starts the day of the father's funeral. The problems of a small family are juxtaposed against the outside world, South Africa. The interpersonal relationship between the sisters, the sisters and their mother, and with Susie, their domestic worker with her emotional story, make us aware of the fact that all mothers and daughters have the same dreams and problems.
