I have been a registered Industrial Psychologist (PhD: Consulting Psychology) for 24 years and am currently employed as lecturer in the Department of Industrial Psychology at the University of the Free State. Within this position, I co-ordinate and lecture Organisational Psychology on an undergraduate and postgraduate level. Prior to this position I was employed as a Senior Lecturer in Organizational Psychology at the University of Mpumalanga. Within this position I also acted as BA Programme leader and was made a research theme driver for the theme “Ethics and Governance”. Before I assumed this position in 2017, I was employed at the University of the Free State as Assistant Director/Head of Academic and Leadership development. My primary purpose within this role was to empower the university to achieve its strategic objectives through building relationships with internal stakeholders. I worked collaboratively with the HR department where I served as an internal consultant, designing and facilitating interventions to address conflict, build teams and foster a culture that was in alignment with the institution’s values. Another core function was to advise the Directors and other managers on HR-related aspects, specifically Labour relations, Equity and Basic Conditions of Employment issues.
Before moving to the Centre of Teaching and Learning at UFS, I was employed as a lecturer in the Department of Industrial Psychology. I served the department for 7 years, lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate modules. In addition, I successfully supervised Honours and Masters Dissertations. During this period I received 5 merit bonuses and was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s award for the best service learning module at the University.
Prior to being a lecturer, I was employed at the South African Police Services, in the Human Resources Department. My primary tasks included psychometric assessment for selection purposes; design and implementation of assessment centers; OD and change interventions aimed at middle management- individual and group level; and acting as an internal HR consultant.
I completed my PhD in Consulting Psychology through UNISA in 2014. The focus of both my masters and PhD was organizational climate. As part of my PhD programme, I was exposed to the latest developments in organisational performance and team interventions. In my private practice I have worked both within the government and private (financial, security, retail, logistical) sectors.
I have presented a number of research papers at national and international conferences. I have also published a number of articles in accredited journals.
