LLM/Master's Coursework
Admission requirements for the LLM degree are subject to the UFS General Rules. Students must:
- Be in possession of an LLB degree
- Have passed with a 60% weighted average
- Have received 60% for final-year research essay/ mini-dissertation
Students will have to register for:
- LNAV7910
- Mini-dissertation
- Three coursework modules
Admission to the Master of Human Rights degree is subject to the UFS General rules. Students must:
- be in possession of an Honours Degree (NQF Exit Level 8); or an equivalent qualification that will be found to be appropriate to pursue the Master’s Degree; and
- have obtained a weighted average of at least 60%.
Admission to the Master of Human Rights degree is further subject to a process of selection.
Students will have to register for:
- Research Methodology
- Mini-dissertation
- Four coursework modules
LLM by way of full dissertation
Admission requirements

You will have to submit a 300-500 word summary of the main topic on which you would like to conduct research, on account of which a supervisor will be identified.
LLD
Admission requirements
- LLM
- 65% weighted average
- 65% for mini-dissertation in the case of a coursework LLM
You will have to submit a 300-500 word summary of the main topic on which you would like to conduct research, on account of which a supervisor will be identified.
PhD
Admission requirements
- MA
- 65% weighted average
- 65% for mini-dissertation in the case of a coursework Master's
Please note:
Foreign students, who did not complete their relevant law degree in English, must successfully pass a relevant or prescribed UFS language proficiency test or equivalent thereof. Admission to any such language module will be subject to approval by the relevant department. The faculty may require an applicant to write a language proficiency test, at his/her own cost, the results of which will be used in the application assessment process.
