LRPC4712: Fourth-year

  • All final-year LLB students in the Faculty of Law at the University of the Free State are mandated to complete the module Legal Practice (LRPC4712) during the first semester, as well as the module Legal Practice (LRPC4712) during the second semester.
  • This module comprises one weekly classroom component and practical sessions at the Law Clinic. All students enrolled for the module have to participate in the practical legal training that is facilitated by the UFS Law Clinic, the only exceptions being candidate attorneys and other students working full time.
  • The students are required to complete assignments, which usually deal with practical matters such as the drafting of a particular pleading, writing a legal opinion, consulting with clinic clients and competing in mooting activities. On average, at least 85% of the faculty’s final-year Law students undergo training at the Law Clinic.
  • In LRPC4712, the Law Clinic facilitates the placement of students at various institutions and private law firms by way of the externship model of clinical legal education to complete 10 hours of practical training.
