Dr Ambrosé Du Plessis
Area of expertise: Coalition politics, governance, public policy, service delivery, Indian and Chinese foreign policies in Africa

Dr Ambrosé du Plessis is a public administration and political science expert at the University of the Free State, South Africa. With a master’s degree in Political Science and a PhD in Public Administration and Management, his research focuses on international relations, coalition politics, public policy, organisational analysis, and the political-administrative interface – particularly within the context of South African government.
He is a sought-after commentator on issues including coalition politics, governance, and public policy. Dr Du Plessis has presented his work at both national and international conferences and has published widely in respected national and international academic journals. In 2024, he was named one of the top 100 most-read authors in the International Journal of Public Administration (USA) and received the university’s top research award under the Researcher Excellence Accelerator Programme (REAP).
Dr Du Plessis is part of the Emerging Scholar Accelerator Programme (ESAP), which forms part of the Transformation of the Professoriate Mentoring Programme – an initiative dedicated to cultivating a critical mass of excellent emerging scholars in South African academia. His ability to bridge academic insight with public dialogue makes him a valuable voice in media discussions around governance, policy, and political dynamics in South Africa.
