Prof Aliza le Roux
Area of expertise: Aquatic ecology, freshwater habitat assessment, biogeography and evolution, and behavioural ecology
Faculty/Department: Zoology and Entomology
Professor Le Roux is in possession of a PhD in Zoology and her area of specialisation is behavioural ecology of wild mammals. She is a C2-rated researcher. Her main focus is on the cognition of primates and small carnivores, as well as their behavioural responses to stress (which includes humans and our infrastructure).
Professor Le Roux has written some papers on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. “I investigate how animals solve problems in the wild, and how they deal with stress. Being more social is often a response to stress, so communication (a highly social activity) also interests me. Predators, unpredictability, and human beings are all great sources of potential stress to wild mammals, which is why I study animal responses to humans, roads, and other infrastructure.”
