Prof Ray Maharaj
Area of expertise: General medicine; obstetrics and gynaecology; medical science; research; medical law; medical education
Faculty/Department: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Prof Maharaj is a full professor and NRF-rated academic in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is an interprofessional scholar with formal qualifications spanning basic science, clinical medicine, women’s health, medical law, and medical education. His work integrates clinical practice, academic leadership, and health professions education.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to academic book chapters, and presented his work at both national and international conferences. His scholarly and professional interests include maternal health, ethical and legal aspects of medical practice, and innovation in health professions education.
Prof Maharaj has previously served on the board of the South African Medico-Legal Association and currently contributes to regulatory and professional oversight through participation in evaluation and professional conduct committees of the HPCSA.
