Human Anatomy

Students in the three-year Forensic Sciences undergraduate programme will have an opportunity to study Human Anatomy, which focuses on the tissues, organs and systems of the human body. In their first year, students will receive a simple introduction to anatomical terms and systems, followed in second year by applying these basic principles to gaining a thorough understanding of the integration of these systems into a functional human being. Finally, in third year, this knowledge is further applied in two of the sub-fields of anatomy – Embryology which provides an overview of how these structures develop, and Anthropology which provides an opportunity for students to explore human variation and the application thereof in a forensic context.


Human Physiology

Students in the three-year Forensic Genetics, Genetics and Behavioural Genetic undergraduate programmes will have an opportunity to study Human Physiology. Students will gain more insight into the basic functioning of the different body organ systems (the human cell, skin and subcutaneous tissue, skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, digestive system, and reproductive systems) in the second study year. In the third year of studies, students will gain insight into basic physiology (circulatory system, cardiovascular system, lymphatic system, respiratory system, urinary system). Also applied exercise physiology and human adaptations to changing environments are part of the third-year Physiology curriculum.

Postgraduate studies may be continued in Human Anatomy or Physiology if the necessary prerequisites are met.
