Dr Lynn has served as Associate Dean for Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, Affiliate Faculty member in African American Studies and Director of graduate and undergraduate elementary teacher preparation programmes at the University of Illinois in Chicago; and Assistant and Associate Professor of Minority and Urban Education – a graduate programme he founded and coordinated at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Prof Lynn is an internationally recognised expert on race and education. He serves as an editorial board member of several journals. He is the lead editor of the Handbook of Critical Race Theory in Education, published simultaneously in the US and the UK with Routledge Press in March 2013.

Prof Emily Achieng' Akuno, currently Executive Dean of the Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies at the Technical University of Kenya, Nairobi, Kenya, has taught postgraduate and undergraduate courses in musicology, performance and music education, supervised master's and doctoral dissertations, projects, and theses.

She is the former chairperson of the Kenya Music and Cultural Festival, the Kenya Music Festival and the Academic Board of the Kenya National Theatre Drama School; former member of the Kenya Cultural Centre Governing Council, the East and Central African Division of Seventh Day Adventist Churches Music Committee; current member of the Pan African Society for Musical Arts Education – PASMAE and a Board member of the International Society for Music Education – ISME, where she is the chair of the Music in School and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC).

Yusef Waghid is a full Professor of Philosophy of Education in the Department of Education Policy Studies since 2002. He holds doctorates in the areas of Philosophy of Education, Education Policy Studies, and Philosophy.

He is an elected member (fellow) of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), executive member of the International Network of Philosophers of Education, B-rated NRF researcher with internationally acclaimed status, and Editor-in-Chief of South African Journal of Higher Education. In 2011, he was honoured with the prestigious National Research Foundation (NRF) Special Recognition Award: ‘Champion of Research Capacity Development at Higher Education Institutions in South Africa’ in recognition for his influence and significant contribution towards the transformation of the social science community in South Africa.

Professor Melanie Walker is NRF Chair in Higher Education and an A1- rated NRF researcher. Before joining the UFS, she was Professor of Higher Education at the University of Nottingham in the UK, where she was Director of the PhD in Higher Education, Director of Postgraduate Students, and a Director of Research in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

She retains her link to Nottingham as an Honorary Professor. Professor Walker is also Vice-President of the Human Development and Capability Association (2014-2017) and a fellow of ASSAf.

Dr Mvula is currently employed by the North-West Department of Education as Chief Director: Institution Policy Development Services and School Enrichment.

Dr Nongyao Nawarat is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Chiang Mai University, Northern Thailand, where she is head of the Centre for Multiculturalism and Education Policy, and of the PhD programme in Multicultural Education. Coming from a background in feminist and civic activism, she gained her doctorate from the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds in the UK. This reflects her interest in the political dimensions of education, and especially matters related to gender, globalisation, migration, and the needs of minorities. Her research is often carried out in association with civil society groups.

Cornelius Hagenmeier is an international education administrator and legal academic who is rooted in the German and South African jurisdictions. Hagenmeier’s academic focus includes internationalisation of higher education.

He holds a South African LLB degree (UNISA) and a South African LLM degree (UCT). He is a non-practicing attorney of the High Court of South Africa. He accepted an appointment at the University of Venda in 2007 in the Department of Public Law and now serves his institution as Director of International Relations.

Ntate Moeketsi Letseka is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Foundations, College of Education, at UNISA. He holds a Master of Education degree obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand in Philosophy of Education in 1987, and is currently registered for his DEd in the College of Education, University of South Africa.

He was formerly employed at the University of Fort Hare as well as at the Human Sciences Research Council. He serves on the editorial boards of a number of publications, including Mevlana International Journal of Education and International Journal of Education. He currently serves as Deputy Editor of Africa Education Review.

He is the former Executive Officer of the Rural Education Forum Australia, and a current consultant with the Center for Relation Learning, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Dr Lis Lange is currently Vice-Rector: Academic at the University of the Free State, where she holds a substantive position as Senior Director heading the Directorate for Institutional Research and Academic Planning. Before this, she was the Executive Director (2006-2010) of the Higher Education Quality Committee in the Council of Higher Education (CHE), and Acting CEO of the same organisation between August 2007 and April 2008.

She has served as a member of the board of the International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and has participated in several international initiatives on quality assurance. She is the editor of an academic journal focused on the humanities, Acta Academica.

He qualified as a teacher from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, where he completed his master's degree in Education (cum laude) in 1995. He also completed certificate courses in human rights in Uganda and Denmark in 1997 and 1998. A PhD degree from the University of Pretoria was conferred on him in April 2007.
