The Department of Health and Wellness hosted a Tax e-filing presentation by the South African Revenue Services (SARS) to educate, simplify and minimise the number of walk-ins to the SARS offices. Martin Rai Naidoo, Tax Educator at SARS, ascertained from the audience how many people have used this system, attempted to use it and how many haven’t tried it at all.

He also provided information on what taxpayers need in order to submit tax returns, classified items which are deductable, explained how to complete an ITR12 form (Individual Tax Return), provided information on the year of assessment, payslips, taxable and exempted income, the e-filing registration process and compliance requirements. He also pointed out the advantages of taxpayers logging onto the system whenever they want and avoiding going to the SARS offices for assistance.

“SARS services are free, let us all be ambassadors of tax compliance wherever we go,” said Tozie Mazitshana, Senior Manager at SARS (Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape regions). She repeatedly thanked the audience and urged them to promote tax compliance in their communities.

SARS also assisted with online tax enquiries after the presentation for all those who needed assistance with e-filing. – Ifa Tshishonge
