‘Safety in Sisterhood’ aligns with the University of the Free State’s Vision 130 by advancing the university’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, empowerment, and resilience. This initiative creates a nurturing space where women can engage in open dialogue, share experiences, and strengthen their sense of community. By prioritising mutual support and authentic connections, it promotes the holistic well-being of women, enabling them to excel in both academic and social realms.

Safety and Sisterhood symposium

From 8 to 10 August 2024, the University of the Free State hosted a transformative symposium under the theme Safety in Sisterhood: Creating Safe and Brave Spaces for Female Students. The event kicked off with a gala dinner on 8 August, featuring a motivational guest speaker who inspired attendees to embrace empowerment and growth. The following day, 9 August, was dedicated to a full-day conference where students engaged in discussions about reproductive health, gender-based violence (GBV), and financial literacy, among other vital topics. The programme concluded on 10 August with a sports day led by Kovsie Sport, emphasising the importance of physical well-being as part of overall wellness.
