The University of Free State (UFS) Department of Biostatistics promotes research in the Faculty of Health Sciences by providing a biostatistical consultation service and by teaching research methods and biostatistics.

Objectives

  • To offer a professional biostatistical consultation service to staff and students of the Faculty, regarding the planning and design of research projects, the analysis and interpretation of data, and the reporting of the project.

  • To contribute actively towards the publication of research in accredited journals.

  • To contribute to sound ethical research by active participation in the Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee, evaluation committees and other Faculty and School committees

  • To contribute to Faculty and School policies and procedures regarding research and teaching and learning

  • To develop and present innovative relevant courses in research methodology and biostatistics to undergraduate students, postgraduate students and staff.

  • To do research in the field of biostatistics, research methodology and teaching

  • To stay informed of developments in biostatistics, research methodology and teaching and learning by attending appropriate conferences and development opportunities.

Lectures

Our department offers lectures on research methodology to students and personnel of the faculty. We are also happy to discuss special requests from departments for ad hoc lectures or discussions.
