Allan Gray awards students for excellence and leadership potential
2014-10-07

The Allan Gray Academic Achievement Awards celebrated the work of students who proved themselves to be a cut above the rest.

The award ceremony was held at the Centenary Complex on 1 October 2014, where students from first- to fourth-year were awarded prizes for their winning submissions in an essay competition on scholarship and leadership.

“Leadership is about influence, not title” said Siya Xaza, guest speaker and award-winning young scientist as well as Harvard University graduate.

Siya encouraged students to reach for greater heights and to see their achievements as only the beginning.  He said: “South Africans are capable of global recognition” – the qualities required to lead have already been demonstrated by UFS students.

Some of the prizes included cash prizes of up to R12,500 and iPad minis.
