Mienke van Rooyen

Quite recently, the Model SA International competition saw Ace Models product, and latest Kovsies pride, Mienke van Rooyen, walk away with the Miss Intercontinental title at their annual beauty pageant held in Bloemfontein in July 2015. A second year BCom Marketing student, Van Rooyen has applied both marketing and beauty successfully to her modelling career. 

The Model SA International annual competition serves as one of many dynamic offerings. The pageant opens doors to modelling agencies whose contestants battle it out for the various titles that are awarded. Van Rooyen invites us to know more about her new achievement, journey, and responsibility as Miss Intercontinental.

As part of her duties, Van Rooyen will have the task of promoting the first ever Supermodel competition to be hosted in SA in Bloemfontein. Another follow-up duty will be the promotion of the World Grand Finale, which will be held on 19 March 2016, at the Sand du Plessis Theatre.

Van Rooyen expressed her long-held passion for the less fortunate, and hopes that her reign will see her helping up to 6 day-care centres around Bloemfontein. As for her modelling and pageant aspirations, Van Rooyen has considered relocating to Johannesburg to her home agency, Just You Artist and Model Agency. Miss Free State and Miss South Africa are other pageants she wishes to compete in.

Van Rooyen explained how she wishes to be remembered, “The way I would like people to remember me, even if I’m not involved in the modelling industry, is that you should find out what you’re good at and try to find joy just in that.” She closed by saying, “Happiness lies in knowing where you are heading in life, and having peace with whatever it is you can’t change in life or about yourself.”
