In 2015, the students of the South Campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) were challenged to come up with a creative and inclusive name for their campus cafeteria. All suggestions went to the campus principal, Prof Daniella Coetzee-Manning, who, in turn, sent them to the various committees who decide on the names of all the UFS buildings.
In the end, Katlego Mokgele’s suggestion won. The South Campus Cafeteria is now officially known as the ‘Southern Café’.
The South Campus has seen a good deal of change in recent months, and is continuing to thrive as it provides alternative access to the UFS through its University Preparation Programme (UPP) and various distance-learning programmes.
