Nelson Mandela once said “It seems impossible until it’s done.” His words are the inspiration behind the first TEDxUFS event of the year, to be held at the University of the Free State (UFS) on 15 April 2016 on the Bloemfontein Campus.
Lined up as the guest speakers at the conference are Ndumiso Hadebe, Dr Thierry Luescher, and Fezile Sonkwane. They will share their perspectives on the theme of #ImpossibleIsNothing.
In 2013, Hadebe won season 2 of One Day Leader, the most-contested youth leadership debate show in the country, which airs on SABC 1. His goal of generating solutions for socio-economic challenges led him to become the Founder and Managing Director of Master Frontiers Advisory. The firm provides leaders and managers with skills to inspire a goal-achieving workforce. A passion for youth development has also seen Hadebe serve as a mentor on SABC 1’s Future Leaders show.
Luescher is the Assistant Director of the UFS Directorate for Institutional Research and Academic Planning. The former senior lecturer in Higher Education Studies and Extraordinary senior lecturer in Political Studies at the University of the Western Cape, has conducted extensive research on higher education governance, student governance, and student affairs. In addition, he is part of the Global Research University Network
Last year, Sonkwane published Native Footprints, his debut book, in which he assesses South Africa's political and social scene since 1994. The former Student Representative Council Academic Officer and alumnus of the Central University of Technology was a freelance columnist for The Weekly newspaper. In 2012, he served as the chairperson for SASCO (South African Student Congress) at his alma mater, and, in the same period, was the Provincial Spokesperson for the YCLSA (Young Communist League of South Africa),
amongst many other leadership positions. Details of event: Date: Friday 15 April 2016Time: 16:30-19:00Place: New Education Building.
