Short CV

Henry Jordaan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics. He completed his PhD in 2012, with a thesis titled "New Institutional Economic analysis of emerging irrigation farmers food value chains". His research interest is in the sustainable use of freshwater for food production, with special emphasis on water footprint assessment. Dr Jordaan is also interested in the entrepreneurial development of smallholder farmers, especially smallholder irrigation farmers, with the aim to establish and develop viable farming businesses.

Research projects Dr Jordaan is currently involved in include:

- Assessing the water footprint of selected fuel and fibre crops in South Africa (WRC K5/2553//4)

- Water footprint as sustainability indicator for table and wine grape production (K5/2710//4)

- Entrepreneurial development for establishing small farming businesses and employment by youth in rain-fed crop farming (WRC K5/2789//3)
