Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which levels must I obtain in Grade 12 to meet the prerequisites for first-year Mathematics?
A: To answer this question, we have to consider two options:
1. When applying for a degree (programme) where Mathematics is a major (one of your main subjects), you need a minimum achievement of level 6 (70%) in NSC Grade 12 Mathematics or equivalent.
2. When Mathematics will only form part of your programme, we start looking at the requirements of the specific Mathematics module that belongs in your chosen study programme. The two Mathematics modules offered in the first semester of the first year are:
* MATM1534 - Calculus: requires level 5 (60%) in Grade 12 Mathematics
* MATM1574 - Precalculus: requires level 4 (50%) in Grade 12 Mathematics
