Prof Bradley Smith, Associate Professor of Private Law, joined the National Research Foundation ranks of established researcher (C2).

He held various positions in organisations, such as the Society of Law Teachers of Southern Africa. He is president of the Juridical Society of the Faculty of Law, council member of the Society of Law Teachers of Southern Africa, and founding member of the Free State Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. He also served on the editorial board of the Journal for Juridical Science.

Internationally he published in renowned accredited legal journals, such as International Journal of Law, Policy and the Family, The International Survey of Family Law, Brigham Young University Journal of Public Law, and non-accredited, peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal for Estate Planning and De Rebus. He also co-authored chapters in student textbooks.

He delivered a 100-page chapter in the scholarly book The law of divorce and dissolution of life partnerships in South Africa, to be published in December 2014.

Papers were delivered at national and international conferences, among them at the Exeter College, Oxford University in 2013, and at Brigham Young University (Salt Lake City), USA in 2007.

He received an LLD in Private Law from the UFS in 2010 with a thesis titled “The development of South African matrimonial law with specific reference to the need for and application of a domestic partnership rubric”.
