Transformative agreements: Support for Open Access Publishing
Overview | What is Transformativeagreement? | What this means for UFS researchers |
The University of the Free State (UFS), through Library and Information Services (LIS), participates in transformative agreements aimed at supportingopen access publishingfor its researchers. These agreements form part of a global shift in scholarly communication. | Transformative agreementsare contracts negotiated between institutions (libraries, national or regional consortia) and publishers. These agreements transition the traditional subscription-based (toll access) publishing model towards open access publishing. Under this model, publishers are compensated for providing open access publishing services, thereby increasing the visibility and accessibility of research outputs. | - Eligible UFS authors may publish open access in participating journals without paying individual article processing charges (APCs), or at reduced cost, depending on the agreement.
- Increased visibility, accessibility, and impact of research outputs.
- Compliance with funder and institutional open access requirements.
