Investigating various aspects of defence signalling in wheat.
Research Outputs:
Me Shata successfully completed the preparation of four different receptor gene constructs which will be transferred into wheat during the next year. She completed her MSc with a 72% average,
The existence of a volatile signaling event between rust infected wheat and uninfected wheat was confirmed on three different levels by Mr Castelyn. The composition of the released volatile bouquet is currently being investigated.
Mr Scholtz confirmed the involvement of a protease inhibitor during three different wheat-Puccinia interactions. He is currently busy identifying other proteins that are involved in the interactions.
