Carla Joubert is the Short Learning Programme Coordinator in the Department of South African Sign Language and Deaf Studies at the University of the Free State. She has over five years of experience in higher education, with specialised expertise in the coordination, development, and administration of short learning programmes within the field of South African Sign Language (SASL) and Deaf Studies.
In her role, she manages the full programme cycle of short learning offerings, including planning, scheduling, registration processes, communication with stakeholders, quality assurance, and operational support. She plays a key role in ensuring that programmes are delivered effectively through face-to-face, online, and blended learning formats, aligned with institutional standards and the needs of diverse learners.
In addition to her coordination responsibilities, Carla also serves as a Junior Lecturer in undergraduate modules. She contributes to teaching and learning within the department by supporting student engagement, facilitating inclusive academic environments, and promoting accessibility in the classroom. Her work is grounded in a strong understanding of Deaf culture and the importance of language development in South African Sign Language education.
Carla holds qualifications in Psychology and South African Sign Language, and she is committed to advancing Deaf awareness, strengthening community engagement, and supporting the growth and visibility of SASL and Deaf Studies within the university context.
