The Natural and Agricultural Sciences Career Fair, held in the Callie Human Centre on 7 May 2025, once again proved to be a meaningful opportunity for students to engage with industry and shape their professional futures. With 14 diverse employers in attendance – ranging from agriculture and environmental sciences to IT and construction – the fair offered students a glimpse into the world of work.
Although 977 students registered, only 462 attended on the day, showing a slight decline in attendance from 2024 when 628 students registered and 492 attended. Nonetheless, the quality of engagement remained high. Many employers commented on how well prepared and enthusiastic the students were. Career Services staff received special mention, with one employer stating, “Your team was instrumental in ensuring everything ran smoothly.”
Students echoed this positive sentiment. “Speaking directly with recruiters made me understand how valuable personal connections and first impressions are. It’s not just about sending in a CV – it’s about making yourself memorable,” one student reflected. Others appreciated learning about graduate programmes, bursaries, and how early planning, such as vacation work and job shadowing, can improve chances of employability.
Career Services ran a focused marketing campaign, including email reminders, social media, posters, and Career Hub announcements. This helped raise awareness and contributed to the professional atmosphere of the event. Faculty support and student volunteers also added energy and warmth to the day.
While some students expressed a desire for greater industry diversity in the future, the overall response confirms the value of the fair. As Career Services continues to expand employer relationships and equip students for the world of work, the NAS Career Fair remains a valuable meeting point between talent and opportunity.
