On Tuesday 16 July 2024, the University of the Free State (UFS) Career Services hosted a masterclass for students from the Faculty of Education. The topic of this masterclass was ‘Current Trends and Opportunities in Education: How to Position Yourself.’
To be prepared for opportunities, students must stay open-minded and ready to adapt; if you have a fixed picture of your future in mind, you may miss different avenues to success. The career landscape – specifically education – is changing rapidly, creating prospects that students may not have considered before. Attendees of this masterclass included both undergraduate and postgraduate students. While some participated online, most students chose to attend the in-person event. Almost all attendees indicated that they would like to attend more masterclasses.

The feedback from students was very positive, with many expressing a desire for more such sessions. One student commented, "I wish these masterclasses occurred every month so that students know very well what is expected of them." Another student – not an Education student – mentioned, “I just love attending Career Services events because I believe in absorbing myself in the university space holistically.”
