Bachelor of Divinity BDiv

The Bachelor of Divinity is a professional bachelor’s degree designed in consultation with Christian churches. It offers a comprehensive and thorough theological-critical and disciplinary foundation in terms of knowledge, theory, principles, and skills required for a career in ministry, as well as a high level of independence and development in research capacity. The programme is recognised by churches, associations, and societies, as it develops graduates to demonstrate meaningful initiatives and responsibilities within a professional context.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements of the BDiv, you can consider the Bachelor of Divinity Extended Curriculum Programme or the Higher Certificate in Theology.

Advanced Diploma in Theology

Whether you are interested in entering the field of theology to develop discernment and ministry skills or just for personal enrichment, if you completed a diploma (at least 360 credits at NQF-Level 6) in any field,this qualification is for you!


The Advanced Diploma in Theology offers an intensive, focused, and applied specialisation that meets the challenges and requirements of the ministry in different contexts. This is accompanied by a deep and systematic understanding of theological disciplines, theory, and practice. Completion of the Advanced Diploma in Theology opens the possibility of postgraduate studies in selected theological fields.

Postgraduate Diploma in Theology


The Postgraduate Diploma in Theology is a multi-disciplinary programme focusing on contextual interaction and the development of ministerial skills. The qualification requires students to be actively involved in a faith community.

Bachelor of Theology Honours


The Bachelor of Theology Honours degree is a postgraduate specialisation programme. The following exciting disciplines are available in this programme: Old Testament, New Testament, Church History and Polity, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Missiology or Religion Studies.

Master’s degree


The Master of Theology can either be obtained through coursework and a mini-dissertation or as a research master’s degree. The following exciting disciplines are available in this programme: Old Testament, New Testament, Church History and Polity, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Missiology or Religion Studies. In addition, there is also an option for Bible Translation and Bible Translation Management.

Doctoral degree


The Doctor of Theology degree requires candidates to undertake comprehensive research (70 000–100 000 words) at the most advanced academic level in one of the following disciplines of Theology: Old Testament, New Testament, Church History and Polity, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Missiology or Religion Studies. In addition, there is also an option for Bible Translation and Bible Translation Management. Candidates should have a high level of research capability in order to make a significant and original academic contribution.
