Fraserburg Logan Toneelfees is the country’s oldest and biggest school drama festival. It is hosted at Hoërskool Fraserburg by a community organisation. The festival was started in 1976 by a few ladies of the town, first as an Eistedford, and after 1978 developed into a drama festival for schools. Forty-two productions from all over the country made their way this year to the stage in Fraserburg which took place from 1 - 5 August 2023. Several of our alumni, now drama teachers, took part in the festival and were nominated or won several prizes.

Vry, directed by Chanmari Erasmus from C&N Sekondêre Meisieskool Oranje, took first place for Best Directing. The production also won the award for Best Production of 2023. Dominique Du Plessis, a learner at Meisieskool Oranje, won second place in the category for Best Female in a Supporting Role for her performance of several characters, while Ancois Bodenstein as Deidre and Jenna van den Bergh as Jackie won first and second places, respectively, in the Best Senior Actress category.    

Afspiegeling, written by alumnus Ilne Fourie and directed by Martinette Spoelstra and Dr Niel van Niekerk from Eunice Secondary School, won first place overall in the Best Newly Written Text category. Greta Maschke won third place in the Best Senior Actress category.

Blok, directed by Isabelle Theron from Jim Fouché Secondary School, was awarded fourth place in the Best Technical Management category, fifth place for Best Directing, fifth place for Best Ensemble, and fifth place in the category for Best Production of 2023.
