Forensic Science is defined as the application of science to legal matters. The aim of the Forensic Science Program is to introduce students to the various biological and physical evidence types found on crime scenes. It covers aspects relating to the scientific basis of the recovery of evidence and the subsequent analysis of these evidence. Furthermore, the legal challenges lodged against the scientific validity of certain evidence types regarding its forensic application is explored. Research in the Forensic Science subsection covers Forensic Chemistry (Tinus Viljoen), Forensic Entomology (Sonja Brink) and Forensic Toxicology (Zeenat Raffie).
