The Tokologo Municipality in the Town of Dealesville
The Tokologo Municipality is one of the municipalities without a Spatial Development Framework (SDF) and which requires a Development Plan. The long-term goal is to help them with the SDF and the Developmental Plan.
The BHons in Spatial Planning students visited Dealesville twice in 2010 when they did reflective questionnaire surveys and made recommendations on the development potential of the community.
In 2011, 45 students visited Dealesville and did socio-economic questionnaires to compile a local economic development plan for the community.
Outcomes for students
The students were exposed to the circumstances of a township and could see people in impoverished circumstances. For some students this has been a new experience and has deepened their understanding of the role of urban and regional planning.
Students undertook surveys in the community and on the basis of that information, they can compile development plans.
Impact on community
Currently the greatest impact is that the community can see there is concern for them. At the end of the programme the community and municipality will have a SDF and a Development Plan.
Research
