ANNOUNCEMENT: 2025 UNDERGRADUATE REGISTRATIONS FOR THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION


The Faculty of Education is pleased to announce that all undergraduate registrations for 2025 will be conducted fully online across all three campuses Bloemfontein, South and Qwaqwa. But there will be venue available for those who will require academic advising or experiencing problems when registering. Please take note of the registration schedule below to ensure a smooth registration experience. Click HERE to register.

Note: Senior students marked as ORANGE on their ADS must visit the faculty to receive academic advice before proceeding with registration. All other students can complete their registration entirely online and remotely.

Bloemfontein Campus

  • 15-17 January – Registration for 1st and 2nd year students
  • 29-31 January – Registration for 4th year, final year, and senior students with a few outstanding modules, Extended Programme students and 4th year Foundation Phase students.
  • 03-05 February – Registration for 1st and 3rd year students
  • 06-07 February – Continuing registration for 3rd year students and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) students.

Academic advising at the Qwaqwa Campus will be held in the Sedibeng Education Building, in Rooms 12C and E00012.

NB: The academic advising venues will operate from 08:00 to 16:30 daily during the registration period.

Curriculum advice is an essential part of the registration process wherein students consult trained academic staff to plan their curriculum for the year ahead. Obtaining curriculum advice differs according to what level of studies you are undertaking.

RELOCATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (FOUNDATION PHASE) IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION TO THE SOUTH CAMPUS IN 2023


Due to the University of the Free State Council-approved Multi-Campus Management Model, this communication seeks to inform prospective first-year students and Stakeholders that the Department of Childhood Education (Bloemfontein Campus Foundation Phase) has relocated to the South Campus.

All staff members (academics and support) are already operating from the Campus, and therefore, all first-year students (undergraduate) who have applied for the Foundation Phase, when admitted, will register, and attend all lectures at the South Campus, from 2023 onwards. Foundation Phase will be offered at the South Campus and Qwaqwa Campus. The Faculty of Education will communicate the necessary information and share all the details with students before the commencement of the first semester classes.

Bachelor in Education (BEd): Four-year Curriculum

Admission Requirement

AP of 30+ and a minimum achievement of Level 4 (50%) for the language of instruction

Note: Additional admission requirements apply for the following disciplines:
Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Economics, Geography, Mathematics, English, Sesotho, Afrikaans and isiZulu.


Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

PGCE is a professional educator qualification that ‘caps’ a degree qualification.

Admission Requirement

NQF level 7 qualification with a minimum of two school-relevant subjects completed as part of the aforementioned qualification; one at first-year and one at third-year level. All PGCE applications go through a selection process at the Faculty level.

Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDiP)

Two years part-time


Admission Requirement

 
To be admitted to this diploma, a student must be in possession of a relevant qualification on NQF Level 7, and current experience in a teaching and learning environment within higher education.

Bachelor of Education Honours (BEd Hons): Four Areas of Specialisation 

One year Full-time and two years Part-time


Admission Requirement

A selection process is applicable for admission to the BEd Hons programme (minimum of 65% average in preceding Degree OR Advanced Diploma).

Additional Requirements for BEd Hons with Specialisation in Psychology of Education

Admission to this programme requires psychology up to second year level. This degree is not for registration with the HPSCA.

Additional Requirements for BEd Hons with Specialisation in Early Childhood Education

Admission to this programme requires Foundation Phase Teaching qualification.

Master's in Education (MEd): 15 different Education Specialisations (Higher Education Specialisation included)

One year Full-time and two years part-time


Admission Requirement
 
Admission into this programme is based on selection considering the academic achievement (at least 60% in the previous qualification) and the focus of research.

Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD): 15 different Education Specialisations (Higher Education Studies Specialisation included)

Two years Full-time and four years part-time


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the PhD programme of study in Education the student must possess an acknowledged qualification at NQF Level 9. 
To be admitted to the PhD programme of study with specialisation in Higher Education Studies, the student must have appropriate experience related to higher education and training.
