The SANRAL Chair’s office mainly focuses on postgraduate students at master’s and PhD level in mathematics, natural sciences and technology education, with a particular focus on instructional leadership. We accept a certain number of students into the SANRAL cohort each year, dedicated to graduating them within the stipulated time.
The SANRAL Chair’s office also has four active research projects, each coordinated by the dedicated staff of the SANRAL office.
- Project 1 (Dr Jita): recruiting and supervising high quality master’s and PhD candidates in mathematics, science and technology education as well as school change and instructional leadership.
- Project 2 (Prof Jita): Researching ‘best practices’ to improve mathematics, science and technology education as well as leadership for improving teaching and learning and school change.
- Project 3 (Prof Jita): Research writing, publication and dissemination including public policy dialogues and community engagement.
- Project 4 (Dr Magwenzi): Recruiting and training committed teachers in mathematics, science and technology education through UFS BEd and PGCE teacher education programmes.
