APPLICATION FOR CROSS-TRANSFER BETWEEN BLOEMFONTEIN AND QWAQWA CAMPUS

 
Applications for registered undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education who wish to transfer between Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa Campus will be open from 01-30 September 2023 and the transfer will be effective from January 2024. Please note that applications will be considered on the basis of substantive motivation pending approval by a committee.

To apply, students must send a completed application form, motivation letter, and supporting documents to edutransfers@ufs.ac.za.

APPLICATIONS TO STUDY FOR A GRADE R DIPLOMA IN TEACHING IN 2024 ARE NOW OPEN

 

The University of the Free State (South Campus), Faculty of Education presents the Diploma in Grade R Teaching. This is a four-year programme on NQF-level 6, and it will be offered over semesters.

The Diploma in Grade R Teaching will provide a vast number of under and unqualified Grade R practitioners with the opportunity to gain access to higher education qualifications. After successful completion of the Diploma R (Grade R Teaching), graduates who meet the minimum entry requirements may articulate vertically by presenting this qualification for admission to a Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching (BEd Foundation Phase Teaching) exiting on NQF exit level 7.

This qualification will not only provide prospective students with an opportunity to develop their academic careers but may also enhance their personal and social well-being. This programme will develop the necessary competencies for students to understand how learners learn and how to teach and assess what they learn.

Admission Requirements (Work-Integrated Learning (WIL).

National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent level National Certificate (Vocational) (NC[V]) with one of the following subjects as a Home Language, English HL, Afrikaans HL, Sesotho HL, and IsiZulu HL.

  • Prospective students are required to provide proof that they are in-service Grade R teachers at school or centre to complete Work-Integrated Learning (WIL).
  • Prospective students are required to complete a form that should be signed off by the principal of the applicable school verifying that the student has access to a Grade R classroom for the duration of the programme (the form will be sent out to the applicant after the faculty evaluated application)

Admission through Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning refers to “the principles and processes through which a person's prior knowledge and skills are made visible, mediated, and rigorously assessed and moderated for alternative access and admission, recognition, or further learning and development. RPL, as defined nationally by SAQA, applies to informal or non-formal learning only. Learning resulting from formal routes will normally be recognised via Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT), but in cases where CAT is found not to be applicable, the RPL route may be explored”.

Documents to submit as part of the application for RPL:

• Completed UFS SC RPL form

• Updated Curriculum Vitae

• A Senior Certificate

• Verifiable letter of supervisor attesting to work experience

  • Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with the admission requirements and the availability of space.

Faculty of Education 5th Annual Postgraduate Research Conference


The University of the Free State, Faculty of Education will be hosting its 5th  Annual Postgraduate Research Conference under the theme “Changing the Educational Landscape in Africa through ongoing research”.

Abstracts that critically engage with the above theme are invited from the Faculty of Education’s upcoming researchers, specifically Master’s and Ph.D. students.

RELOCATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (FOUNDATION PHASE) IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION TO THE SOUTH CAMPUS IN 2023



Due to the University of the Free State Council-approved Multi-Campus Management Model, this communication seeks to inform prospective first-year students and Stakeholders that the Department of Childhood Education (Foundation Phase) has relocated to the South Campus.

All staff members (academics and support) are already operating from the Campus, and therefore, all first-year students (undergraduate) who have applied for the Foundation Phase, when admitted, will register, and attend all lectures at the South Campus, from 2023 onwards. The Faculty of Education will communicate the necessary information and share all the details with students before the commencement of the first semester classes.
