MDB 192: The Prevention of HIV & AIDS, and Empowerment in a South African Context.

The effects of HIV & AIDS are having huge and multiple implications for the work of social workers in South Africa. These professionals are under extreme pressure to provide care, counselling and support to those infected and affected by this virus and to also initiate meaningful HIV prevention strategies.

The eight credit module covers the themes of:

  • facts and figures about HIV & AIDS;
  • the management of HIV & AIDS and counselling;
  • social and cultural factors in the context of HIV & AIDS in SA;
  • the prevention of HIV & AIDS and
  • the legal, ethical and policy issues relating to HIV & AIDS.
