Postgraduate
 Social Interaction

Postgraduate social interaction plays a vital role in enhancing academic and personal growth, helping students build valuable networks, collaborate on ideas, and maintain a healthy work-life balance throughout their academic journey. The purpose of the these events is to create a social space for postgraduate students on both the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa Campus to openly express the challenges that they are facing in their academic journey. This is also an opportunity to engage with students on topics relating to their studies with which the CGS offers assistance.

Postgraduate Games Day at Qwaqwa Campus

The Postgraduate Games Day at Qwaqwa Campus on 9 October 2024 was a total hit! Hosted at the Kutlwano Gazelle - Shu 7 (Dubai Res), it was the perfect way for postgrad students to unwind, relax, and actually see other humans for a change!

Let’s be honest, the postgrad journey can be a lonely one, but thanks to our department’s brilliant idea to throw this event, 70 postgrad students came together for some much-needed fun and bonding.

The day kicked off with a welcome snack (because we all know food makes everything better) and kept rolling with all sorts of games.

We had a 30 Seconds showdown, Twister (aka the battle of flexibility), a heated FIFA tournament on the PlayStation, some relaxed painting, Jenga, and a bunch of other board games.

The burgers and chips for lunch were a crowd-pleaser, and the DJ kept us on our feet with a killer playlist – Masikandi, house, amapiano, qhom, and even some R&B for the soul.

Everyone left with big smiles, new friendships, and plenty of great memories. It was a fantastic way to break the isolation bubble of postgrad life and just have a blast together!

All in all, the Postgraduate Games Day was a perfect reminder that while the postgrad journey can be tough and lonely, it's so much better when we come together to connect, have fun, and make the grind a little lighter!

Postgraduate Coffee Morning

The purpose of the Postgraduate Coffee Mornings is to create a social space for postgraduate students to openly express the challenges that they are facing in their academic journey. This is also an opportunity to engage with students on topics relating to their studies with which the CGS offers assistance.

On 30 April 2024, the Centre for Graduate Support hosted the first Coffee Morning of 2024. Recognising the potential isolation experienced during postgraduate studies, we aimed to provide a supportive environment for students to foster relationships, exchange experiences, and enjoy the company of like-minded individuals.

It offered postgraduate students a chance to take a break from the solitary grind of academia and connect with their peers in a relaxed setting. Participants engaged in meaningful conversations, sharing their ups and downs of the postgraduate journey.

Keep an eye on your email and our social media channels for future invitations. Join us for the next opportunity to unwind, connect, and build a supportive postgraduate community.
