Fast-track your career development and research capacity with the Professional Development Programme offered by the CGS for academic staff members. This is a 12-month programme aimed at helping to build academic staff member’s career portfolio through one-day, monthly workshops that are free of charge, and presented by a group of diverse and skilled professionals.

The main focus of this programme is to equip academic staff members with knowledge and skills on a personal and professional level (among other components) to develop in their role as researchers contributing to the publication-rate increase at the UFS.

2024 Professional Development Programme 


Are you an academic staff member? If yes, fast track your career development and research capacity with the Professional Development Programme offered by the Centre for Graduate Support.

The programme will consist of workshop sessions which will be held once a month throughout the year. The duration for each session is 4 – 6 hours. Participation in this programme is free and is compulsory once a participant is enrolled.

The programme will cover the following areas:

  • Career Building and Portfolio Development.
  • Scientific Communication skills: accreditation, NRF rating, funding, ethics, and conference attendance.
  • Abstract Submission.
  • Focusing and planning your research.
  • Mentoring and coaching in academia.
  • Social entrepreneurship.

This exciting programme is presented by a group of diverse and skilled individuals.
