The BAcc Degree Programme is for students who want to qualify as Chartered Accountants (CA(SA)). Chartered Accountants render services not only as accountants but also as taxation, financial, management, and auditing experts. This is a sought-after career for both the corporate and the public sectors.

The BComAcc degree is fully accredited by SAIPA and AGA(SA), and no postgraduate studies are required to continue with the process to qualify as a Professional Accountant (SA) or an Associate General Accountant (SA). The BCom (Accounting) also has partial accreditation by CIMA and ACCA.  Those who wish to pursue a career in financial management in the private sector will also benefit from the BCom Acc programme.

What are my postgraduate options?

Graduates interested in pursuing chartered accountancy, can enroll for either the B.Com.Honours in Accounting or the Postgraduate Diploma (General Accountancy), which both serve as bridging programmes, allowing students to articulate to the B. Acc. Hons or the Postgraduate Diploma (Chartered Accountancy).

Alternatively, graduates can enroll for the B.Com. Honours in Management Accounting degree which is aligned to the Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (‘ADMA’) of CIMA. With the successful completion of the ‘Strategic Level’ of CIMA, and practical training after obtaining the B.Com. Honours in Management Accounting degree, students can qualify as Chartered Management Accountants.

In addition, after obtaining the B.Com. (Accounting) degree graduates can enroll for the B.Com. Honours in Taxation. With the successful completion of SAIT’s entry examinations, and practical training after obtaining of the B.Com. Honours in Taxation, students can qualify as Tax Professionals or Tax Advisors.

What are my postgraduate options?

After obtaining the B.Acc. degree and meeting the relevant admission requirements, you will register for either the B.Acc. Honours degree or the PGDip (CA). Successful completion of the postgraduate programme provides entry to SAICA’s first professional examination. After completion of a practical training period as a trainee accountant and the successful completion of a final Assessment of Professional Competence (‘APC’), such candidates may register as a South African Chartered Accountant (‘CA (SA)’) at SAICA.

Alternative postgraduate options for B.Acc graduates include the B.Com. Honours in Management Accounting degree which is aligned to the Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting (‘ADMA’) of CIMA.
