One year compulsory community service must be done after completion of the Physiotherapy degree. In this year you are sure of a job as well as a salary. Placements are done by the Department of Health.
After this year there are a wide range of opportunities available, including hospitals, private practice, schools for children with special needs, rehabilitation units and with sport teams competing at different levels.
The option of obtaining your MSc in Physiotherapy and PhD in Physiotherapy is also available.
Practicing as a physiotherapist you have the responsibility of updating your professional knowledge continuously. The HPCSA control this through the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system.
