Technology Innovations and eResearch

Delivering more, Delivering the right thing and Delivering the right way

Divisional head: Mr Chris Linstrom
Tel: +27 51 401 2675

During 2017, ICT established an outward-looking division referred to as TiER (Technology Innovations and e-Research) that, over time will re-evaluate our technological offerings by monitoring the emergence of newer, and sometimes better technologies in all areas of the UFS digital domain. This division will mainly focus on the following:

eResearch
eResearch  fosters a contemporary research environment by unifying technology with research. eResearch incorporates innovation and technology to transform the conventional research approach into a distinguished research methodology.

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) unit addresses the requirement for high intensive computing resources used by the next generation of researchers. The HPC assists researchers from diverse disciplines with their computational needs, where a normal computer would be inadequate for the research method.

involves a set of policies, tools, and procedures to enable the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems following a natural or human-induced disaster.

  1. Business Continuity. It’s a plan to ensure that an Organization can continue, and personnel and assets are protected in the event of a disaster.
  2. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a field concerned with the safety, health, and welfare of people in a work environment or organisation.

Technology Innovations
Most people are familiar with the often-disruptive impact of new technology when it is highly innovative, although some technology is incremental (perhaps only automating a manual process) while the other technology is transformational. Technological innovations comprise new products and processes and significant technological changes of products and processes. Innovation will address the following areas.
  • Business technology
  • Classroom technology
  • Learning technology
  • IT technology (Labs and services)
