GEADO 

The mission of the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Office(GEADO) is to conduct action research that promotes gender equality and anti-discrimination. embed the gender agenda of the University across all divisions of the University. This is an integral part of mainstreaming gender and the anti-discrimination agenda. engage and coordinate with other divisions, in particular the Center for Universal Access and Disability Support, to advance universal access. ensure that all members of the University enjoy equality and diversity in access, and opportunities in ways that advance the transformative and decolonial agenda of the UFS.

Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Programmes

The Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Office (GEADO) does advocacy and training on anti- discrimination and sexual equity, constitutional rights, LGBTIQ+ awareness, gender transformation, safe space training, diversity and sensitivity training.

Partners: Free State Rainbow Seeds (LGBTQIA NGO and NPO) Organisation that supports MSM.

Mainly conducts sexuality sensitisation.


Commission for Gender Equality (CGE): Statutory watchdog. Chapter 9 institution.

The CGE, as a Chapter 9 institution, has a constitutional mandate to promote the protection, development, and attainment of gender equality. This constitutional obligation mandates the CGE to monitor any entity within a public or private sector, and to hold them accountable to their constitutional obligations.
