Special Examination
According to the UFS General Rules, a special examination is defined as follow:

"A special examination is an examination that students automatically qualify for if:

  • the student is registered in her/his final academic semester;
  • this module in which the examination is needed is the only outstanding module to obtain the qualification, whether or not the examination was failed in the main mid-year or main end-of-year or any of the additional examination periods;
  • the student is registered, in the current academic year, for the module in which she/he needs a special examination and has obtained a predicate;
  • writing the examination (including alternative modes of assessments)* and passing would contribute to obtaining the qualification without prolonging her/his studies for another academic semester or year;
  • after passing that single module, the student will obtain a qualification."
* Modules for scripts and dissertations will be excluded.
The process of the special examination:
  • The Student Records Division identifies students who qualify to write the special examination.
  • The Examination Division informs the special examination students of the date, time, and venue when the special examination will take place.
