Limakatso Mosia only started running in 2009 as a Grade 9 learner at Karabelo Intermediate School in Qwaqwa. Between then and now, she has claimed her stake as one of the best cross-country runners in the Free State.

“I have always loved running since I was a child,” says Limakatso, a Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase) student. “As I grew older, I realised that one can even make a living out of this through scholarships and bursaries that are given to deserving sports stars. The last three years have been good to me as I managed to make it to the schools’ national championships in Pretoria as an under-18 runner in 2010. I also did well in the 4 km category in Mpumalanga in 2011.”

Limakatso has been awarded the title of Qwaqwa Campus 2013 Sportswoman of the Year and believes that hard work pays off at the end. “I never knew that doing what I love would one day open doors for me – as I was directly recruited to register at the UFS Qwaqwa Campus by Mr Zoko who has always followed my performance even while I was at high school.”

Her teammate, Serame Mosia (no relation) is also a tenacious athlete who has been experiencing a successful 2013. As a well-deserving winner, he has been presented with the Qwaqwa Campus 2013 Sportsman of the Year award. “My biggest achievement this year was getting a bronze medal during the Eastern Free State championships that were held in June. I also managed to qualify for the national championships,” Serame says.

These two sports stars have an abundance of ambition.

“With hard work, we will soon be flying the national flag and singing the national anthem at one of the major international events,” Limakatso said.
