Volksblad and the University of the Free State’s overall winner of the 2013 Matriculant of the Year competition will become a Kovsie in 2014.
Jannie de Wet, former head boy of Jim Fouché High School in Bloemfontein, is hopeful and excited about his student career at Kovsies.
“I had to choose between engineering and actuarial science, but decided that actuarial science will be a better option for me – especially since IT, mathematics and economics were my favourite subjects at school.
“I know that actuarial science is a tough course, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
Classes in actuarial science at Kovsies are also smaller, which means that students receive more attention.
“I’m looking forward to meeting new and interesting people and to experience the freedom of student life at Kovsies.”
Jannie is especially excited about living in a residence for the first time in his life. From next year he will be a proud resident of House Armentum.
“My cousin is a resident of Armentum and I always have to listen to his exciting stories. I have never lived in a residence myself and am looking forward to have my own stories about residence life.”
Jannie represented the Free State in badminton and chess this year and took part in numerous olympiads. He is a loyal Voortrekker and achieved distinctions in all 10 of his subjects for the 2013 matric exams.
