The 10th annual Kovsie first-year Moot court

The Faculty of Law ‘s Department of Procedural Law and Evidence, in association with BarBri International Limited, hosted the 10th annual Kovsie first-year Moot court from 2 to 4 October 2014. 

The three-day programme opened at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein on 2 October, where law students were addressed by guest speakers and prepared to present legal arguments.

Day three of the Moot court saw the final round of debates, based on a hypothetical case for which student presented their arguments to win the first prize in both the English and Afrikaans categories. Presiding officers were Adv Suzanne Boonzaaier and Adv Mohamed Shafie Ameermia.

The occasion ended with a prize-giving ceremony and recognition of former Dean of Law, Prof JJ Henning, at the Summerwood Country Estate on 4 October.

The results of last week's Kovsie First Year Moot competition, as far as Kovsies are concerned were:

1. Junior division: winners best Afrikaans team in the competition.
2. Junior division: joint winners of overall best team including Afrikaans and English.
3. Junior division: winners best heads of argument English.
4. Senior division: winner best heads of argument.
